WunderTech Consulting

I’m Frank Joseph, the person behind WunderTech. If you’ve watched my YouTube channel or read tutorials here, you already know what I work on.

This page is for the people who want hands-on help on their own setup, whether that’s a home lab, a small business network, or a NAS migration that’s gotten complicated.

I’ve been offering consulting through WunderTech, LLC since November 2022. All work is done by me directly. There’s no team, no outsourcing, no junior tech you’ve never heard of. If you hire WunderTech, you’re getting me.

What I Help With

The work I take on usually falls into one of these categories:

  • Synology NAS deployment, migration, and configuration. New NAS setups, migrations between models, RAID and SHR planning, Hyper Backup configuration, package, and Docker setup.
  • UniFi network design and rollouts. Planning a UniFi deployment for a home or small office, VLAN design, firewall rules, switch and AP placement, wired and wireless coverage planning.
  • Proxmox and home lab architecture. Cluster setup, LXC and VM strategy, networking, storage planning, and migrations.
  • Self-hosted services. Pi-hole, AdGuard Home, WireGuard, OpenVPN, Nginx Proxy Manager, Plex, Jellyfin, and other common home lab applications.
  • Hardware planning and recommendations. Picking the right NAS, mini PC, switch, or networking gear for your specific use case. I’ll ask about your workload, budget, and growth plans, and recommend hardware I’ve actually run in my own lab.
  • Troubleshooting and second opinions. Sometimes you’ve already built something, and it’s not working the way you expected. I’m happy to take a look.

If you’re not sure whether your project fits, fill out the form below with as much detail as you can, and I’ll tell you straight up whether I’m the right person to help.

Why Hire Me

  • Over 15 years of experience in corporate IT and application management
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and an MBA
  • 90,000+ subscribers on the WunderTech YouTube channel covering exactly the topics I consult on
  • An actual home lab I run every day, with Synology and other NAS units, a Proxmox cluster, a full UniFi network, and a long list of self-hosted services
  • Active in the community on YouTube and Reddit, where my work is publicly visible and reviewed

The main value that I provide is having someone who actually uses this stuff. Most of what I write about and consult on is also what I run in my own house. That’s not marketing, it’s just how the channel ended up working.

How It Works

  1. You fill out the form at the bottom of this page with a description of your project. The more detail you can give, the better.
  2. I respond within 1-2 business days. If I can’t help (wrong scope, no availability, conflict of interest), I’ll tell you upfront and try to point you in the right direction.
  3. If we’re a fit, I’ll send you an estimate of how long the work will take. Nothing starts until you’ve reviewed and approved.
  4. The invoice is paid in advance via PayPal, credit, or debit. There’s a 1-hour minimum.
  5. Work is scheduled outside business hours, after 5 PM EST Monday through Friday, or on weekends. All engagements are remote, scheduled in advance.

Rate

$250 per hour, with a 1-hour minimum. Connecticut residents add 1% sales tax.

That rate covers the actual consulting hours. If a project goes faster than estimated, I bill the actual time. If it goes longer, I’ll let you know before going past the original estimate so you can decide whether to continue.

WunderTech Consulting FAQs

Do you offer fixed-price work?

Generally no. Most home lab and small business work is variable enough that hourly is fairer to both sides. If a project is well-defined and I can scope it confidently, I’ll occasionally agree to a fixed price, but the default is hourly.

Is the work remote or on-site?

Remote only. I do everything via screen share or remote access, depending on what makes sense for the project. This works for the vast majority of home lab and NAS work.

How long does a typical engagement last?

It varies. A NAS setup or a single Pi-hole install might be 1-2 hours. A UniFi rollout for a small office might be 4-8 hours spread over a week. A Proxmox cluster build is typically a multi-session engagement. I’ll give you a realistic estimate before we start.

What if I just have a quick question?

For a single quick question, you’re better off posting in the comments on the related YouTube video or article.

Can you help with something not on the list above?

Maybe. The list above is what I do most often, but the underlying skill set is broader. If your project is in IT, networking, NAS, virtualization, or self-hosting, fill out the form, and I’ll tell you whether I can help.
