My DIY NAS Build List
I finally built my DIY NAS device (while using a lot of repurposed parts) and it’s the most powerful NAS I’ve ever built.

It’s running TrueNAS Scale as the operating system but is incredibly powerful compared to what I normally use. The biggest downside is its older hardware, which makes it cheaper in some cases (Processor, Memory, GPU, etc), but more expensive in others (Motherboard).
Here is the full build list:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X
- CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9x65
- Motherboard: ASRock X570 Taichi
- RAM: 128GB DDR4 ECC Memory (two total)
- PSU: Corsair RM750X
- Case: Sliger CX4712
- 2.5″ Hot Swap Bays: ICY DOCK 6 Bay 2.5″ Hot Swap Case
- HBA Card: Lsi Logic Controller Card
- 25Gb Networking: Mellanox (you might want to go with Intel depending on your OS)
